The Court of Appeal in Uganda confirmed the 12-year and three-month prison sentence for Godfrey Wamala, alias Troy, for the killing of beloved music star Moses Ssekibogo, popularly known as Mowzey Radio.

This decision has now brought closure to a case that shocked the nation since Radio died in 2018.

A panel of judges unanimously dismissed Wamala’s appeal, agreeing that the trial court had carefully reviewed the evidence before convicting him.

Wamala had argued that the prosecution’s case had inconsistencies and that his original 14-year sentence—later reduced due to time served on remand—was too harsh. However, the appellate court found the evidence against him reliable and upheld the conviction, ensuring Wamala remains in Luzira Prison until his sentence is complete.

Mowzey Radio, a celebrated artist and member of the Goodlyfe Crew, was a household name in the country, known for hits such as “Neera” and “Nakudata.” His tragic death at the age of 33 sparked widespread grief and demands for justice.

The case against Wamala drew significant attention, with fans and the public closely following the legal proceedings. While Wamala’s legal team expressed disappointment, Radio’s fans took to social media, praising the decision as a step toward accountability.

The legacy of Mowzey Radio continues to live on through his timeless music, and he’s always celebrated with a Radio week that falls between January and February, which coincides with his birthday and the anniversary of his passing.
