RIP: EX-Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Kasule Ndirangwa Passes Away

Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, the former Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli-based Muslim faction in Uganda, passed away on June 20, 2025, at Mengo Hospital.

His death, announced through multiple posts on X, has left the Ugandan Muslim community in mourning. He has been hospitalized in the ICU at the same hospital for the past couple of days and was also rumored dead a couple of months ago, although this was debunked.

Born in Uganda, Sheikh Ndirangwa dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship and leadership. He rose to prominence as a respected cleric, renowned for his profound knowledge of Islamic culture and his dedication to fostering unity among Muslims.

As Supreme Mufti, a position he held until his resignation in 2021, he led the Kibuli faction, one of Uganda’s major Muslim groups, with a focus on education, charity, and interfaith harmony. His tenure was marked by efforts to modernize Islamic institutions and promote peaceful coexistence in a diverse nation.

Sheikh Ndirangwa’s contributions extended beyond religious circles. He was a vocal advocate for social justice, often addressing issues like poverty and education access for marginalized communities. His resignation in 2021 surprised many, as he cited personal reasons, leaving a legacy of compassion and reform.

Details about his life post-resignation remain scarce, but his influence endured through his teachings and the leaders he mentored.

The announcement of his death sparked an outpouring of grief on X, with tributes showing his humility and spiritual guidance. Many prayed for his soul, with posts expressing, “May Allah grant him al-Jannat.”

While the cause of death remains undisclosed, his passing marks a big loss for Uganda’s Muslim community.

Kampala Woman MP Hon Shamim Malende Mourns Her Father Sad news coming in indicate how the Kampala woman MP Hon Shamim Malende is currently mourning the death of her father. Taking to her X page, the MP posted the update to her followers and the general public. "Lost my biological father JAMAL-AHMED SEBUTA MALENDE. Inna lilaahi wa-inna lilaahi rajuun," she posted a picture of herself seated alongside her now deceased father. More information regarding the burial process will be communicated in due time. This comes at a time the MP too herself has been battling health complications. Malende has spent almost half her 5 year parliamentary term in hospital. Her health deteriorated in the past couple of months requiring her to be transported to Kenya for urgent medical attention. However, she seems to be on the road to full recovery and is expected to be in pole position to reclaim her parliamentary seat come next year.
